My Gratitude

November 24, 2011

At the beginning of the month, my cousin put forth a challenge: To come up with something you are grateful for every day until Thanksgiving. After all, we are surrounded by things to be grateful for. Why should we focus on it only one day a year?

Below is the list of things I was grateful for over the last 24 days. Hope you all can find things to be thankful for every day, too.

  1. I am grateful for sleep … And the fact that I can always count on it come so quickly.
  2. I am grateful to have finished day 2 of week 1 of the couch to 5k walk/run. Today was definitely harder than Monday, but I made it!
  3. I am grateful that it is almost Friday. I know that really doesn’t count, but it’s what I am most grateful for today.
  4. I am grateful for not winning the lottery. It would have made life too easy and would have kept me from learning the lessons I am meant to. AND While I hate the song “Edelweiss,” I am extremely grateful for the wine by the same name.
  5. I am grateful we get an extra hour of sleep tomorrow morning. That way, I won’t have to head to the airport quite so early in the morning.
  6. I’m grateful for my animals. All five of them. They have learned how to enjoy life and never judge. Life is good with them.
  7. I am grateful to have a three-day reprieve from cold, wet weather. It’s gorgeous outside.
  8. I am grateful for my hotel’s proximity to Central Park and Aleve. Both are keeping me going in my couch to 5k quest.
  9. I am ever so over-the-top grateful for caffeine in all it’s many forms. It is going to get me through today.
  10. I am grateful that all of the planes ran ahead of schedule. It’s been a busy work day, but travel didn’t get in the way!
  11. I am grateful for my Grandma Armstrong, who turns 93 years old today. She was born the day the Armistice was signed (do they still teach kids about that?). I am really blessed to have her in my life.
  12. I am grateful that is the season of pomegranates. I will be cleaning blood-red juice off my walls for days, but I’m still grateful.
  13. I am grateful that I actually managed to get 8 hours of sleep two nights in a row. Quite the feat. AND I am grateful that my mother cleans my house while I was on the road because that allowed me to spend some focused (and admittedly insane) time cleaning and organizing my laundry/utility room.
  14. I am grateful it is not still last week. That was brutal.
  15. I am grateful that my cat Gus believes I should be serenaded awake with purrs and trills in my ear. I would be more grateful if he wouldn’t start at 4:30 a.m., but I’m still grateful (And tapping the kitty snooze button doesn’t help. It makes him only purr louder because he thinks he’s getting attention).
  16. I am grateful for friends and family who put up with my insanity … You know who you are!
  17. I am grateful for my gift for sarcasm (and the fact that it runs in the family … hmmm … imagine that!). It makes life FAR more fun.
  18. Today, I am grateful for wine. ‘Nuff said.
  19. I am grateful I live so close to my family. Even if they are insane. And drive me nuts. Guess you can’t have it all, right?
  20. I am grateful for a lazy weekend. I had a ton of work to do, but I needed the time to regroup for the short, but busy week ahead.
  21. I am grateful that I found my way home.
  22. I am grateful that I live in a new house. Otherwise, I’m sure pretty sure I’d have water everywhere right about now. (posted on a day of extreme wind and rain)
  23. I am grateful for every day that I get to laugh with friends.
  24. I am thankful for everyone I am blessed enough to have in my life — my insane family, my friends, those who helped me make the great escape and continue to be an amazing network of support even today.
