One Year of Love

December 5, 2011

I have to confess: I’m bad about opening mail. It’s not that I don’t care. It’s that I generally don’t have time to weed through the bills and catalogs and junk mail that seem to fill my box every day.

Saturday seemed to be no different. I had a stack of mail and little motivation to deal with it. But as I shifted through the pieces, I found an envelope from Homeward Bound Pets, the local no-kill shelter. Homeward Bound is the shelter from which I adopted Zoey, the youngest and smallest of my kitty quartet.

The card was to celebrate the day Zoey (then known as Tigerlily) came into my life — one full year ago. It’s amazing to think that this tiny, sweet kitty has been brightening my days for a full year already. She is such a happy soul. She understands that life is meant to be enjoyed and people (and kitties) are meant to be loved. She’s a constant reminder that nothing in the world is too big or too scary to investigate and possibly even play with. And, she often teaches me that in those rare times when the world seems a little empty, all you have to do is ask someone to hold you — preferably upside down so your belly can be rubbed — and you will be reminded of just special you are to those around you.

I can’t believe that such a petite package can come with so many lessons and so much love.
