Clover Days

June 1, 2012

I love this time of year. And not just because the sun awakens the world again with its gentle warmth or because the days stretch until sunlight dominates the landscape and brighten our world until almost anything seems possible.

No, I love this time of year because it’s when local farmers plant clover and their bright blooms spread across fields like crimson sea. Farmers plant clover as part of a crop rotation, allowing the land to rebuild its nutrients while still providing a marketable crop.

Clover season is relatively short-lived, so we only get to enjoy the blooms for a couple of weeks. Still, seeing the crops let me know each year that spring has finally arrived.

    • Thank you! I really had fun with this — even when a bicyclist passed and laughed at me as I was kneeling in the dirt to take one of the photos. 🙂
