Repost: Velvety Wine

July 15, 2012

When I think of the best Pinot noirs I’ve ever had, they generally all have the same basic characteristics:

  • Balanced
  • Fruity
  • Velvety

I know the last word might seem a little strange, but for me the sign of a great Pinot is one that is soft and smooth on the palate, like the feel of velvet across skin.

The 2008 Jory Cuvée Pinot from Duck Pond Cellars just outside of Dundee, Oregon, is an example of such a wine.
