Please Help Cats Find Better Lives

July 22, 2012

I’m generally not one to do this, but I am putting a call out there to all animal lovers: Cat Adoption Team, a nonprofit shelter for cats in Oregon, is holding a 5K walk and run on Saturday, July 28, 2012. I put up a donation page and am almost at my goal. I’m not worried about my goal, I’m worried about Cat Adoption Team’s goal. Every dollar raised via the site will be match dollar for dollar — up to $5,000. Right now, it is only about halfway to the $5,000 mark, which means that it could lose out on a lot of money.

The shelter desperately needs the money now more than ever. Not only does it help spay and neuter cats throughout the region, it takes in homeless cats and finds them new families, shelters cats who can’t find homes because of medical issues and holds monthly food bank events to provide cat food and litter to families who have fallen on hard times and need a little help to care for their pets as they get back on their feet. Their whole goal is to help cats find permanent, perfect homes. On top of their normal expenses, the organization has had to spend a large amount of money to renovate several rooms in the shelter after a water pipe burst in April and damaged more than 60 percent of the facility.

I have a special place in my heart for Cat Adoption Team because they brought me two of my beasties — Izzy and Gus. I can’t imagine life without them.

If you can give — even a little — please visit my donation page to make a donation by Friday, July 27, 2012. All of the money goes straight to Cat Adoption Team — I don’t see a dime. Or, if you prefer, you can go to the main Cat Adoption Team donation page and select one of 35 different people raising money for the organization.

Thank you for indulging me. And, for taking the time to read (and possibly donate), I’m including some glamour shots of Izzy and Gus.
