Yet Another Hatchling Update

May 30, 2013

Getting bored of these yet?

I’m not.

After five days on the road, I could barely stop myself from running to the front porch to see if they were still there. I spent the requisite amount of time loving on all of the animals and playing fetch with Cooper before finally sneaking away with the camera.

I found, to my surprise, that there were still babes in the nest.

Decidedly bigger babes than just five days ago, but still babes.

Hatch 1

Not wanting to frighten any of the baby birds, I had a hard time getting a good angle on the trio. Of course, it didn’t help that the middle bird had her back to me and her head tucked in her sibling.

Hatch 2

I took my last picture just as the momma bird flew up with a worm in her beak. She scolded me for being so close to her babies and refused to come anywhere close to the nest while I was around.

Hatch 3

Even pappa bird came along and scolded me from the roof of my neighbor’s house. So, I disappeared inside for a few short minutes, hoping it would give the pair enough time to dote on their triplets.

And, when I popped outside again, I managed to get the shot I wanted all along.

Hatch 4

They definitely will be ready to fly in just a few short days. The biggest issue I have now is trying to keep the plant going until it’s nest-free. It hasn’t fared well under the weight of essentially five birds, but I am hopeful I will be able to keep it going.
