Hot Day Serenade

May 1, 2014

During a recent warm  day in the Pacific Northwest, I decided to throw open the windows and head outside to do a little work in the garden. The day, as far as I was concerned, was perfect to pull a few plants, rethink my garden design and find a little symmetry in chaos.

I was deep in thought and sweat and gardening plans when I heard an odd little squeaking noise echoing across the back yard.

At first, I tried to ignore it, but the noise became more frequent, more insistent. Puzzled, I followed the noise to the back patio and looked around. Nothing outside seemed to be the source. When I turned to leave, however, the noise came again.

That’s when I realized …

The squeak was coming from …

The open kitchen window …

Now, whenever I am on the back patio for any extended period of time and I leave the windows open, I find myself serenaded by the sweet, clingy, little Colby. Apparently, in her mind, life is just better when shared.
